A coalition of civil society organizations has strongly denounced the criticism aimed at Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, characterizing it as an assault on the integrity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. The coalition maintains that the suspension of Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi was a crucial step to maintain order and discipline within the Senate.
Consisting of groups such as Rising-Up for a United Nigeria (RUN), Guardians of Democracy and Development (GODD), and Partners for a Legislative Agenda for Nigeria (PLAN), these CSOs stress the significance of unity in the Senate and urge Senators to prioritize national progress over regional divisions.
This position comes in response to reports of clandestine activities by Northern interest groups protesting Ningi’s suspension, citing his allegations of budget manipulation. In a united press release, Amb. Solomon Adodo, Mallam Suleiman Musa, and G. C. Oluoha Esq., representing RUN, GODD, and PLAN respectively, caution against internal divisions within the Senate, advocating for the dissolution of factions that undermine solidarity.
The coalition rejects Ningi’s accusations of budget tampering, pointing out his active involvement in budget deliberations. They question Ningi’s choice to air grievances publicly rather than through established Senate channels, interpreting his actions as an effort to smear the Senate President’s reputation and challenge Tinubu’s governance.
Encouraging Nigerians to stand behind the current administration, the coalition calls for unity in rebuilding Nigeria’s prosperity and economic resilience amid ongoing obstacles.
