Saturday, 18th February 2023 was an iconic day in the history of the Benue State University (BSU) Makurdi.The institution celebrated its existence @30 and the18th -21st combined convocation. The Vice-Chancellor , Prof. Tor Joe Iorapuu, other Principal Officers, members of the Governing Council as well as the Senate members were well positioned for this all important occasion. The Visitor to the university, the executive governor of Benue State, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ioraer Ortom was present to grace the all auspicious occasion.
Performing his duties, the Visitor carried out the role of installing the new Chancellor, HRM, King (Barr,) Disrael Gbobo Bob-Mannuel II; kSC, JP, UN-MP who latercarried out his function by conferring various degrees to the university graduates.
Graduates of the Centre traveled far and near in order to be a part of the 18th -21st convocation ceremonies and the excitement of the day were not lost on their faces. Joining in their joy, the Centre Management hosted CEFTER-BSU graduates after the convocation activities.
To ensure that the day was even more colorful, the hosting of graduates took place at the new postgraduate complex auditorium where CEFTER-BSU Management team and other staff were present to grace the occasion.
Addressing the graduands, the Centre Leader congratulated those who partook in the convocation ceremonies and encouraged them to be excellent ambassadors of the Centre having graduated from a World Bank African Centre of Excellence. He added that it was interesting that theconvocation occurred at a time when the University was also celebrating its 30th anniversary as an institution which makes their exit even more exciting and meaningful.
Highpoints of the occasion was the decoration of graduates with CEFTER-BSU sash which was done by the Centre Leader, and he ably assisted by the Deputy Centre leader, Prof. Gillian Ogbene Igbum. Among others present at the function were Dr. Sylvester Adejo (Deputy Director, Research &Collaboration); Dr. Comfort Soomiyol (Monitoring and Evaluation Officer); Mr. Simon Danbeki (Project Accountant) as well as Dr. Scholastica Banka(Centre Secretary).
In the midst of music and munching chops, champagne was popped to the excitement of everyone shouting ‘Cheers!!!’
